Callahan-Edfast Mortuary & Crematory

    Callahan-Edfast Mortuary is the oldest locally owned & operated funeral home in Mesa County.

     T. F. Callahan founded the funeral home in 1910.  In 1944, William J. Callahan and Virginia Stephenson, son and daughter of T. F. bought the business.   In 1956, Weston P. Edfast joined forces with the Callahan family and they moved the business from 3rd & White Avenue to Sherwood Drive.  In 1975, Michael Blackburn joined William, Weston and Janice Callahan as a partner, and in 1990 Michael and Nikki Blackburn bought the mortuary, becoming its sole owners.  They are a family-owned, family-centered staff who pride themselves on being an active part of the Grand Junction community.  Mike has served on numerous boards of directors in the community including Community Hospital, St. Mary’s Home Health, Rocky Mountain HMO, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts Grand Junction Chamber and he is a member of Downtown Grand Junction Rotary Club.  Nikki serves on the board for the Counseling and Education Center (CEC) helps on various community fundraising projects.

    The staff also includes Gary L. Blackburn, Michelle Blackburn Sulley, Daryl Pridy, Claudia Metz, Rod Guthals, Rik Vasquez, Bob Ferguson, Frieda Berry, Dennis Seufer, Charles Craig and Sandra Johnson and Abel Chavez, independent trust and insurance representatives.

     In December 1997, the mortuary moved from its Sherwood Drive location to 2515 Patterson Road.  The facility features two chapels, four visitation rooms, a lounge that is available for after funeral coffees or lunches an on-site crematory and a columbarium on the grounds for inurnment of cremated remains.  The funeral home offers pre-paid plans and insurance as well.

     Callahan-Edfast Mortuary is a member of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and Selected Independent Funeral Homes, membership by invitation only.
