Our family, (Mark, Missy, and their children, Jeromie & Holly Smith) loaded up the truck and they moved to Grand Junction (not Beverly) from Santa Cruz, California in the spring of 95. The goal was to open a bagel shop that was ahead of it's time and a cut above the rest in a town that was a little slower and layed back than the hip foodie haven of Santa Cruz. Armed with the perfect lease on the best corner, (complete with a fountain patio), of Grand Junction's historic downtown Main Street and with the fabulous secret recipes provided by our mentor John Hamstra of Santa Cruz's famous "The Bagelry", we were stoked with the possibilities!
We opened in August 1995 with bagels, bagel sandwiches, bialys, cookies, scones, coffee, espresso, authentic Indian chai made from scratch, and fresh squeezed juices.  We were extremely happy with the response of the community! The crowds were wonderfully confirming. Over the next few years I further studied artisan bread making and pastries with some of the world’s best known bakers. We slowly added other baked goods to our menu such as artisan breads, superb cinnamon rolls, Danish, biscotti, brioche, croissants, sticky buns, rugelach and really great granola. Of course with our new artisan breads we had to expand our sandwich menu. We also added soups, salads and smoothies.
In 2003, to accommodate the crowds, we expanded into the building next door. This gave us the ability to make two conference rooms available for meetings and parties with seating for up to 40 people. Free Wi-Fi, ample seating and great coffee & food has long made Main Street Bagels the place to meet, conquer the world, or just people watch.
In 2009 we opened a 2nd location at Mesa State College. Located on the ground floor of the beautiful new student housing and in the college retail center, this is a lively and fun spot. Stop in and meet us!
Main Street Bagels Artisan Bakery & Cafe, where great food, great coffee and great people come together.
